About Greg McFadden | RiverPainter

Greg has been capturing western landscapes working as a professional river guide and plein aire painter since 1990. His works are primarily water colors with pen and ink washes.

Every original painting is created outside using actual water from the river.

Each piece is painted in one session through only one water vessel and utilizing only one brush. the light, reflections, and time of day are integral in the palettes that greg uses. Most of Greg's collections are designed around the river runner. These paintings are inspired from the passion and continuing relationship that he has with the river.

"my concept is to express these rare landscapes, seen only by a limited number of people, through integrating the colors we see with the purest natural element, water... i believe that by using the actual water from these sites, there is a somehow sacred aspect to each piece holding a glimpse of the beauty and inspiration so abundantly felt there."

In addition to his art, Greg is also a river guide and ski guide. Based out of Fraser Colorado at 9000', his home is located at the headwaters of the colorado river. He has a design degree from the University of Colorado and has worked in the outdoor industry since 1991. Greg has worked on the middle fork of the salmon and main salmon for over 12 years. In the winter, greg teaches avalance education courses in Colorado and also cat ski guides at Brundage cat ski in Mccall Idaho.

Greg is a ski tester for Skiing magazine and has been featured in Men's Journal, 5280, Powder, and Skiing. Greg rows and paints his way down the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon annually.
